They say that respect can only be earned, and that was never truer of ‘Gold Rush’ star John Schnabel who passed away on 18th March 2016 at home with his family.
Schnabel was one of stars of the highly sucesful Discovery TV series ‘Gold Rush’ and without dount the most loveable charecter of them all. As viewers watched his young grandson, Parker, grow from a teenager to a young man viewers were constantly struck with the unconditional love and pride that John Schnabel clearly had for Parker.
Thank you all for the kind words. Grandpa John lived a great life and was one of a kind. I am glad the world got to see an amazing man.

It was, of course, John who gave Parker his first oppurtunity of running his very own mine when he handed over control of the Big Nugget Mine to Parker when he was just 17 years old.
For the viewer, there was never more love shown between the grandfather and his grandson. Every time John saw Parker his eyes would light up as if it were the first time he had ever seen him. Of course it’s difficult to lose a grandfather but I can imagine it’s one that will affect Parker and his siblings heavily for the rest of their life.
John was born on 11th February 1920, the son of a Moonshine bootlegger who fled from police to Alaska. He was one of 5 children.
