Albert Battle, Colchester. An interview with Cyril Meadows.

It’s November 1989 and local amateur historian, Cyril Meadows, sits gown with my Great Grandfather to interview him about his life growing up in Marks Tey and Colchester in the early 1900s.

Albert Battle will go on to tell his story including losing his siblings, life working on and driving steam trains, seeing a zeppelin crash at Peldon and many other very interesting stories.

He also talks about poverty, illness, his family and various other topics.

I have uploaded the audio to Youtube and it can be listened to here.

Albert was married to Majorie Battle and their lived in a bungalow at Shakespeare Road until they passed in the 1990s.

I was very lucky to have know my great grandparents. Albert was a ‘salt of the earth’ man. He never got cross, he laughed a lot and his loved to talk.

I hope you find it interesting.
