Arbroath Football Club: A Quick Visit

Arbroath Football Club is a Scottish football club based in the town of Arbroath, Angus. They currently play in the Scottish Championship. The Club was founded in 1878 and plays home matches at Gayfield Park. They play in maroon strips and are nicknamed “The Red Lichties” due to the red light that used to guide fishing boats back from the North Sea to the town’s harbour.

We visited Gayfield Park in October 2021 when visiting our estranged father of 35 years.

Arbroath Football Club hold the World Records for the biggest victory in a World senior football match when they beat Bon Accord, 36-0, in 1885.

John ‘Jocky’ Petrie scored 13 goals in that game, a record for the most goals by a single player in a British senior match.

The current football ground holds the record for being the closest to the sea in Britain.

Arbroath’s main rivalry is with Montrose.

We were greeted by a lovely lady who was more than happy to relieve me of £150 for some merchandise 😉 lol

C’mon the Lichties!
