Maajid Nawaz

Maajid Nawaz has long been a voice recognised on LBC Radio, but it appears he extreme brand of Left-wing politics has finally stuck in the throat of LBC’s parent company, Global.

Taking to Twitter, Nawaz said that he would no longer be getting any Covid vaccinations due to what he called “crimes against humanity”.

He was slammed by his radio colleague Iain Dale who branded the tweet as “irresponsible and dangerous propaganda”.

LBC announced on Twitter that Maajid’s contract had come to an and and that it would not be renewed. The radio station also said that he would be leaving the station immediately.

Taking to Twitter later, Nawaz said that his contract actually expired in April 2022 and that he had been due to appear on the station on 9th January but that slot has been cancelled.

He also said that he did not quit.

Who is Maajid Nawaz?

Maajid Nawaz (born 2 November 1977) is a British-Pakistani activist, author, and public speaker. He is the former chairman of Quilliam, a counter-extremism think tank, and the founder of the counter-extremism organization Deradicalize UK. Nawaz is a former member of the Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir, and he has spoken out against extremism and Islamophobia. He is also a regular contributor to the media, and he has appeared on television and radio programs around the world.

Nawaz was born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, to a British Pakistani family. He was educated at the University of London, where he studied law and Arabic. After graduating, he worked as a journalist and broadcaster. In 1999, he joined Hizb ut-Tahrir, an Islamist group that advocates for the establishment of a caliphate. He remained a member of the group for over a decade.

In 2001, Nawaz was arrested in Egypt for his membership in Hizb ut-Tahrir. He was held in prison for four years, during which time he renounced his Islamist beliefs. After his release from prison, he returned to the UK and founded Quilliam in 2008. Quilliam is a counter-extremism think tank that works to challenge extremism and promote social cohesion.

Nawaz is a controversial figure. He has been criticized by some for his past association with Hizb ut-Tahrir. However, he is also praised by others for his work to challenge extremism and promote social cohesion. He is a regular speaker at universities and other events, and he has written several books, including Radical: My Journey Out of Islamist Extremism (2012) and Islam and the Future of Tolerance (2015).
