Thorpe Park Resort has been accused of segregation after it ask guests who were not wearing face coverings to sit at the rear of its rides in what is possibly one of the most Woke Tweets of 2021.
The Twitter user complained after her 18 year old son was asked to sit at the rear of an amusement ride because he wasn’t wearing a face covering. This is a new rule added to Thorpe Park’s terms and conditions after it reopened in March 2021.
In a Tweet posted on social media platform Twitter, one user likened the request made by the amusement park as the segregation of Black Americans on buses. #BoycottThorpePark began to trend on Twitter in the early hours of 19th June 2021.
The post blew up after the original complainant, @Natashadsays, began retweeting images of Black Americans segregated on buses:
One user said:
“Discrimination is never acceptable. Thorpe Park is making mask exempt people sit at the back of their rides. These rides are outside and there is no mask requirements for this anyway.”
However, hundreds of people were quick to fire back, pointing out that asking people to sit on the back of an amusement ride has absolutely no comparisons to the racisms and repression of 19th Century United States.
One person said:
“It makes PERFECT sense to do this. @THORPEPARK have to consider the health of guests over your son not wearing a mask, you know, during a pandemic? Cry harder!”
Another said:
“People are seriously comparing Thorpe Park putting mask-less people to the back of the ride as a safety precaution to *checks notes* “SEGREGATION OF BLACK AMERICANS”. You do realise segregation was more than “can’t sit at front of bus”, right? The ignorance is astounding.”
In a statement released on Twitter, Thorpe Park Resort said:
“In line with our ride restrictions, all our guests who are mask exempt are required to sit in the row farthest to the back to reduce the risk of air transmission aboard our attractions.”
Perhaps if you don’t like Thorpe Park’s requirements, you could just not visit? Ironically, Natashadsays describes herself as “AWAKE not woke”. 🤣
Natashadsays clearly has little, if no, education of US Black History. Perhaps if she did, she wouldn’t have retweeted such comparisons in the first place.
